The statistics are staggering:
• Memphis makes up only about 8.4% of Tennessee’s population
• Yet the city accounted for roughly 43% of all murders in the state in 2024
• Memphis poverty rates massively exceed the statewide average
• Child poverty, violent crime, car thefts, robberies, and welfare dependency continue to dominate the city’s reputation

We also examine what Tennessee’s statewide numbers would look like WITHOUT Memphis:
• Lower homicide rates
• Lower poverty rates
• Reduced welfare burden
• Improved public safety statistics
• Better economic perception statewide
