The Democrats chose removing due process over public safety

I am not an avid television watcher. And I watch even less C-SPAN as watching our overpaid politicians prance around in their ridiculous dog-and-pony show environment is more than I can stomach. But I found myself glued to C-SPAN yesterday afternoon as the Senate voted down four gun related bills. Naturally everything was voted on down party lines. No surprise there. But I did find myself realizing how lucky I am to have been born with conservative DNA as I would definitely have to punch myself in the face daily if I were cursed to have been born a liberal. I know that sounds harsh, but hear me out.
While I don’t feel as though I align perfectly with Republican policies as they are nearly as much a problem in DC as Democrats, I do find that I have so much more in common with them. But the Democrats blatantly attacked not just the 2nd Amendment as they tend to do with drunken fervor, but this time they went a step farther and went after the fact that Americans are afforded all the protections in the Constitution until they are they are proven to be and found guilty of something. They were even given a choice to protect due process while still getting what they wanted in the bill and they walked away from it!
Now Sen. Cornyn (R) tried to work with Sen. Feinstein to assemble a bipartisan bill that would work to keep suspected terrorists from buying guns by requiring a court order to put someone on the Terror Watch list. So there would be a certain amount of due process involved before a person would be put on the list. But that wasn’t good enough for the Democrats or Feinstein. They didn’t want due process. They wanted to be able to arbitrarily put any American on this secret list based on flimsy hunches. So Cornyn and Feinstein each put their own Terror Watch list bills out. They both would have kept suspected terrorists from buying guns, but the only difference was that Feinstein’s bill stripped you and I of due process.
Both of these bills were voted down. In her disappointment in not being able to take due process from innocent Americans, she strolled farther down wacko lane. She disagreed with the feasibility of Cornyn’s bill, saying that it’s “nearly impossible” to mandate the Department of Justice provide evidence within 72 hours to prevent a gun purchase and implied that the FBI’s method of putting a person on the list was flawless already, saying the FBI’s database is “clearly vetted.” The same list that has on it members of the Department of Homeland Security, members of congress, 6 month old babies, persons refusing to be federal informants, etc. And “nearly impossible” means just that – nearly, but NOT impossible.
So if public safety was really that important to the gun-hating Feinstein and the rest of the Democrats and they were really this close to getting what they claimed they wanted – to keep suspected terrorists from purchasing guns – why did they choose the removal of due process over public safety? Rather than voting for Cornyn’s bill they all voted against it, but voted instead for Feinstein’s where, again, the only difference from Cornyn’s was that hers didn’t allow due process, where his did. So this makes it appear that their main goal was for any political party in power and in control of the DOJ to be able to prevent anyone for any reason from being able to purchase a firearm. Let me remind you of the IRS’s recent abuse of power where they were proven to have sought out and targeted conservative groups they differed with and audited, investigated, and harassed them.
Please contact your local Senators who voted against Feinstein’s bill and thank them for fighting for us. Let them know that you were watching and you’ll always be watching in case they ever get the urge to vote our rights away. Because we will need them to stand up for us again when the next radical Islamic terrorist or any other whack job attacks innocent Americans with a firearm. Sadly, it will happen again at the rate the current administration is allowing un-vetted immigrants into the country. Go to www.Congress.gov and thank them for their help.
