While there are plenty of reasons to hate Obamacare, I can’t help but wonder if one of them is because it’s being forced on liberty-loving Americans. Well, a small town in Colorado has passed an ordinance mandating its citizens, or head of household, to own a firearm and I hear people cheering about it. What are they thinking?

According to the Denver Post guns have put Nucla in the national Second Amendment spotlight since the Nucla Town Board on May 8 passed the first — and only — municipal ordinance in Colorado requiring heads of households to have guns, and ammunition, “in order to provide for and protect the safety, security and general welfare of the town and its inhabitants.”

Not only do we set a precedent for allowing the government to control another part of our lives when we get happy because they’re forcing something we like onto us, but do we REALLY want everyone in a certain city, state, or country being forced to own and possess a firearm? I mean, haven’t we all seen someone who actually wanted a gun who was careless and dangerous with it? Gun safety isn’t automatic. It must be practiced. Now imagine people who don’t want a gun with one. If they dislike guns that much, do you really think they’ll practice gun safety? No. When they put their hands on a gun, lives will be in danger. We don’t want those people to be forced to have a gun. What’s next after that – a government subsidy to provide mandated guns for those able-bodied bums who sit home all day and do nothing? Pass.

Let’s just protect our rights to choose and all will be well. If you want a gun, get one. If you don’t want one, then don’t get one. Just like I don’t want some pasty-white, milk toast sissy trying to force me to give up my guns, I don’t want the government forcing them to have to own one.
