We all know who the bad guys are. They’re on TV every night and in the papers every morning. But do we know who the good guys are? Well, I had the pleasure of meeting many of Louisiana’s very own good guys today at the annual training conference for the Louisiana Tactical Police Officers Association in Lake Charles, LA.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lake Charles Police Department are the host agencies and I have to say they have done an amazing job coordinating such a massive and involved event. Lt. Tommy Carnline of Rapides Parish along with a diverse and very well equipped board for the Louisiana Tactical Police Officers Association make a week of non-stop activities look easy to a non-law enforcement person like myself.

I was able to spend most of Tuesday’s competition day with the CPSO’s Jody Peloquin as we filmed hours of video for our TV show of one of the most intense obstacle course competitions I’ve ever witnessed. Snipers shot from towers, men rappelled to the ground from 3 stories up, teams shot in sequence throughout a challenging obstacle course, and also carried a 200 lb dummy throughout the shotgun portion of the course.

I have always been proud of my home state of Louisiana. Today was even more reason to feel that way. Here’s a word of advice to any criminals planning to pass through Louisiana: Go around.

Stay tuned. A full video segment on this amazing event is coming soon!
