If you would have asked me three months ago about the ammo shortage, I would have told you to give it a month and things would settle back down as the ammunition manufacturers caught back up with the demand. It’s three months later and things have actually gotten worse.
There are thousands upon thousands of USPSA, IPSC, 3 Gun, skeet, and just casual sport shooters out there who are having to make sough decisions on how to practice. (Even reloading supplies have become scarce.) For those of us who shoot a minimum of 50-100 rounds a week for practice, we find ourselves at a point where we either shoot up what ammo we have saved up and hope that ammo production catches back up or else we find alternative means to practice to stay sharp.
As a recent addition to and new member of USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) I began investigating new ways to practice without depleting an already low supply of live ammo. I purchased a higher end airsoft gun that is modeled after the USPSA gun I’ll be shooting. Here’s a video we put together on assembling backyard targets at a very low cost that can be used for target practice in your very own backyard.
